HamptonsFilm announced today that the 31st annual Hamptons International Film Festival will take place October 6-15, 2023. For the second consecutive year, the 2023 edition will be presented as an expanded 10-day event with live and in-person screenings and events hosted across the Hamptons. The festival is now accepting submissions through FilmFreeway. The deadline for Early Bird submissions is March 15, 2023, with the Regular Deadline set for April 4, 2023.

“To continue what we started with our milestone 30th anniversary, we are thrilled to celebrate the 31st edition with an expanded festival for the second year in a row,” said HamptonsFilm Executive Director Anne Chaisson. “It became apparent that our audiences were ecstatic about the extended time frame, which sparked discussions with our Board about continuing to bring economic development to the East End in the shoulder season.”

HamptonsFilm will continue to give awards in the amount of $130,000, with special awards events taking place throughout the duration of the festival, as was done with the Dick Cavett Artistic Champion Award presentation and luncheon honoring Mariska Hargitay in 2022. Last year’s film programming has garnered an impressive 38 Oscar nominations, including Best International Feature nominations for our Best Narrative Feature jury competition winner CLOSE and for our Compassion, Justice & Animal Rights program winner EO; Best Documentary Feature nominations for ALL THAT BREATHES and ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED, as well as for our SummerDocs series selections NAVALNY and FIRE OF LOVE; Best Picture nominations for THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE, TRIANGLE OF SADNESS, and WOMEN TALKING; and twelve nominations among the acting categories, including a Best Supporting Actress nod for our Breakthrough Artist Stephanie Hsu.

In addition to the fall festival, HamptonsFilm announced plans to continue some of the highlights of their year-round programming. The upcoming 16th annual SummerDocs documentary showcase will feature a series of banner screening events hosted throughout the summer season, highlighting some of the year’s most anticipated and talked-about documentary features. Celebrating its 23rd anniversary this year, the HamptonsFilm Screenwriters Lab (April 14-16) champions the artistic visions of up-and-coming filmmakers from around the world, and will pair selected fellows with established writers and creative producers for a weekend of one-on-one mentorship.

“As we begin 2023, we could not be more excited to bring our year-round programming and our extended 10-day festival back to the film-loving community out East,” said HamptonsFilm Artistic Director David Nugent. “As reflected in the many awards for which last year’s film lineup has been recognized, our programming team continues to work to bring the year’s best films out to our audiences.”

The 31st Annual Hamptons Film Festival will run October 6-15, 2023. Passes will be on sale later this year. About The Hamptons International Film Festival

HamptonsFilm, home of The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF), based in the Hamptons on the Eastern End of Long Island, was founded in 1992 to celebrate the art of film and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. A non-profit organization with year-round screenings of global narrative and documentary films, an annual Screenwriters Lab, a summer documentary showcase, and extensive educational initiatives, HamptonsFilm offers programs that enlighten, educate, and provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers, while also providing the East End of Long Island with an educational and cultural experience that enriches the lives of its citizens and contributes to the local economy. HIFF, celebrating its 31st year, is an annual premiere film event in New York State, and an intimate showcase of some of the year’s best offerings in contemporary cinema from around the world. Awarding prizes to filmmakers in cash and goods and services of over $130,000, each year, with over $5 million awarded in competition funds and services over the decades, our program continues to play an important role during awards season. For eleven consecutive years from 2010 through 2020, the Festival screened the eventual Best Picture winner at the Oscars, making HIFF the only Festival in the world with such a distinction.
