The rousing Red, White, and Yellow is the Hoop Dreams of competitive hot dog eating. When Ed "The Animal" Kratchie, 6'-7" 330-pound world champion from Queens lost the International Mustard Yellow Belt to 135-pound Hirofumi Nakajima from Japan, the sports world was stunned. Red, White, and Yellow chronicles Kratchie's quest to regain his title. In the words of Nathan's spokesman George Shea, "It's not about the USA vs. Japan, it's about the human race, and what are we doing?" You may indeed wonder what these people are doing as they try to down dozens of hot dogs-but with Kratchie's boyish charisma and the impassioned commentary of New York Post reporter Gersh Kuntzman, even vegetarians will be entertained and engrossed by this all-American spectacle. - David Schwartz
