An accidental switch at the adoption agency sends a Chinese baby home with an African-American family. The child, Julian (Dante Bosco) is accepted into the Lee family and raised in a tight-knit African-American community by his father, Joe (Ernie Hudson), and mother, Annabelle (Pam Grier). When Joe dies, the family relocates to South Central, Los Angeles, where the local boyz 'n the hood don't know what to make of an Asian homeboy and Julian suffers an identity crisis. Meanwhile, May-Ling (Margaret Cho), an Asian exchange student is mistakenly routed to a host family (John Witherspoon and Nell Carter) in South Central, L.A., and quickly sets about assimilating. Tim Chey's feature debut is a cross-cultural comedy that is as humane as it is outright hysterical.
