Mission to Mars - Mars Direct Project

Ambassador Finch serves on the Board of Directors of the National Space Society - an organization working in the exploration of space and the legal, moral and international issues arising from such explorations. The Mars Direct project is NASA's most recent endeavor and NASA recently announced a nationwide competition for students to select an appropriate landing site on the planet Mars. Studies show that the possiblitiy for life on Mars in the future could be a reality.

Mr. Finch's background is extensive and impressive. He is a lawyer and author/lecturer. He is a former diplomat, having served as Special Ambassador to Panama, Japan and Austria and is a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. Amongst his missions was a recent fact-finding tour of Haiti.

A graduate of Princeton in 1941, he then served with great distinction during World War II, being decorated with the U.S. Legion of Merit and the Oak Leaf Cluster for his work at the Strategic Air Command. In addition, he received the O.B.E. from Queen Elizabeth II and was promoted to the rank of officer of the French Legion of Honour by President Mitterand. He earned his law degree from N.Y.U. in 1947 and attended Harvard Business School of Global Management.
