A family guest room overlooking Shinnecock Bay was what Barbara and Michael
Orenstein chose as their first showhouse room. Married for twenty-eight
years and partners for six, each saw the room exactly the same way and had
the exact same desire - to furnish it as it might have looked when the house
was built in 1905: a mix of pieces that seem collected over time. This is a
trademark of the Orensteins, whose tastes lean toward traditional
furnishings and the English country look. With its emphasis on comfort and
durability, the space feels lived in, and with bright, light color and
cheery patterns, it's a room that says summer.
"I see it as a feminine room a man would feel comfortable in," Michael
observes, "For me," says Barbara, "it's a romantic retreat...where charm is
everything."
