Urge the Commissioner of The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to withdraw plans for a golf course on the Camp Hero area of Montauk Point State Park. Tell her that the disturbed area of this property is too small to develop a golf course, and that the surrounding wetlands, bluffs, wildlife habitat, maritime oak-holly forests and red maple/ tupelo swamps should not be disturbed. Wanted: Volunteers for Annual Spring Planting
and Breeding Bird Inventories

Spring Planting

During this year's Spring Planting, we will be: 1) transplanting medium-size bushes and trees to restore various habitats; 2) "nursery planting" small trees, which we will transplant during future Spring Plantings; and 3) digging field clumps of beach grass, which we will transplant to eroding dunes. We need able-bodied persons who are available on Saturdays and are willing to get their hands dirty. If you are interested in helping, please contact Vikki Bergen at 537-1400, extension 3010. If you leave a message, please leave your name, as well as your work and home phone numbers.

Breeding Bird Inventory

The Breeding Bird Inventory project documents nesting birds in key woodland habitats in eastern Southampton. The project is an important first step in developing a plan to preserve local populations of forest-interior birds. Volunteers will be needed from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. once a week for the four weeks of June. Since each project team consists of a data recorder, as well as an experienced birdwatcher, not all volunteers need to be familiar with local bird life. If you are interested in participating, please contact Steven Biasetti at 537-1400, extension 3004. If you leave a message, please leave your name, as well as your work and home phone numbers.
