Called the "doyenne of the Democratic Party" and "the greatest courtesan of the Twentieth Century," Pamela Harriman led her controversial life with singular ambition, Married at 19 to Winston Churchill's son only long enough to produce a child of her own, Harriman embarked on a career of affairs with the likes of former New York governor Averell Harriman, CBS News correspondent Edward R. Murrow, Prince Aly Khan-, financier Baron Eli de Rothchild, and Fiat heir Gianni Agnelli. By the time she wed Broadway empresario Leland Hayward in 1957, Harriman had become a "sophisticated social entrepreneur," using her charm, brains and sexuality to stake her claim in a world dominated by men. A third marriage, this time to ex-paramour Harriman, launched Pamela into the world of domestic politics and international diplomacy. Harriman died in 1997 while serving as U.S. Ambassador to France. Played by Ann-Margret, the portrayal highlights one of the century's leading ladies of power, politics and female pursuasion.
