In a row of dilapidated Quonset huts on an abandoned U.S. Army barracks outside Reykjavik, three generations of the eccentric Tomasson family endure triumph and tragedy as American culture - namely big cars and rock'n'roll - invades their lives. Its the 1950s, and precocious teenager Baddi returns from a trip to America dressed like Elvis and spouting fragments of song lyrics and pop culture slogans. Again, Fridriksson shows clear affection and compassion for these merry, oddball survivors and their plight: "These outsiders," he has said, "reminded me of my favorite film - Rocco and His Brothers. With this film I hope to reveal a hidden world that few people knew existed in Iceland." - Eddie Cockrell
