At 42, Carol Bradley's (Reedy Gibbs) life is comfortably balanced between
her husband Guy (J.K. Simmons), their 17-year-old daughter, Denise (Meadow
Sisto), and her involvement in her church and community. But today she is
concerned. Her best friend Jessica (Gwynyth Walsh) is suddenly having
reckless, unapologetic affairs with all the married men in town, creating a
scandal. When 19-year old James (William James Jones), a handsome African
American looking "for work, and to learn about white people," comes to stay
with the Bradley's, the melting pot boils over. Carol's sense of security,
her world view and morals, are being challenged on all fronts. James
Rosenow's moving first feature charts Carol's dilemma with tolerance and
grace, even as it questions those very concepts.
