Opening night short USA 1997, 35mm, Color, 8 min. World Premiere
Director: Harry J. Hershey Nawang Khechog, a former Buddhist monk, plays the didgeridoo, creating a wall of deeply resonant sound as the camera circles around him in a dark space. Gradually images begin to "bubble" toward the viewer-children's faces, people in national costumes-to create a viscerally engaging synthesis. Hershey's cinematic tone poem is a heartfelt and quietly transcendent prayer for unity. |
