This unusual film is a colloborative effort of the cutting-edge Broken
Lizard Comedy Group, headed up by directed Jay Chandrasekhar. The ingenious
script was constructed using improvisation techniques, and most of the cast
is played by Broken Lizard members.
It starts as a simple boy-meets-girl story: at a frat party our underdog hero Felix meets the co-ed of his dreams, Suzanne. But she's involved with a rugby player from another school, and wants nothing to do with Felix. Through sheer persistence, and no small amount of charm, plucky Felix eventually convinces Suzanne to date him, though she insists on one condition: she must be able to continue to see her macho boyfriend. And thus Puddle Cruiser becomes a hilarious examination of the complicated mating rituals of multiple-partner romance. Puddle Cruiser perfectly observes the details of modern college life, from the temptation of the cafeteria's locked ice-cream freezer to a hilarious feminist theatre performance. This authentic and engaging collegiate comedy is a completely original and auspicious debut. 1996, 35mm, Color, 104 Minutes
