Layin' Low

Directed by Danny Leitner

Danny Leitner's deft first feature is a hard-edged, Brooklyn-based comedy full of quirky characters. Jerry Muckler is a loser: 33, jobless, loveless and still living at home. His best friend Christy isn't in much better shape, spending his days losing money he doesn't have at the local OTB. Trying to make a few bucks, Jerry ends up in the middle of a shoot out, quite literally "holding the bag." Suddenly on the lam from both the mob and the law, Jerry turns to Christy, who hides Jerry with his cantankerous, octogenarian Aunt Rose - who turns out to be quite a card shark. When Aunt Rose is visited by Angie, Christy's got his own plans for a big score. Jeremy Piven is utterly believable as luckless underdog Jerry, and scheming Christy is imbued with manic energy by the talented Frank John Hughes.
